Tectono?Metamorphic Evolution of the Northern Dom Feliciano Belt Foreland, Santa Catarina, Brazil: Implications for Models of Subduction?Driven Orogenesis

The Dom Feliciano Belt in southern Brazil and Uruguay represents the western half of a Neoproterozoic orogenic belt located portion South Atlantic Orogenic System. Current interpretations are divided as to nature orogenesis this belt, part owing lacking geochronological constraints. Metamorphosed deformed supracrustal sequences Brusque Complex northern Belt, representing foreland, record onset duration crustal thickening. Structural analysis pressure–temperature estimates indicate that complex reached peak regional metamorphic conditions 540–570°C 5.5–6.7 kbar during thrusting burial, consistent with metamorphism early Garnet–whole rock Lu–Hf Sm–Nd isochron ages date event between circa 660–650 Ma. Ar–Ar dating mica suggests thrust-controlled exhumation partial cooling by 635 Ma, localized deformation occurred into late Ediacaran. Our results show foreland typical for thickening 20–30 million years prior massive magmatic activity hinterland. Such delay is hot, internal parts orogens, which supports hinterland magmatism post-collisional not arc above subduction zone. Instead, we suggest was initiated rift-basin inversion driven far-field forces transmitted through crust an intracontinental rift or back-arc setting.
